Description:

The goblin Pumuckl, created by German author Ellis Kaut, first made his debut in 1962 in a radio play series by Bayerischer Rundfunk. The stories revolve around the Munich carpenter Franz Eder, who becomes able to see Pumuckl after the goblin gets stuck to his glue pot. According to the "Goblin Law," Pumuckl must stay with Master Eder from that moment on. The first episode of the radio play was broadcast on February 21, 1962.

Pumuckl's iconic appearance, characterized by his red hair and mischievous facial expression, was designed in 1963 by illustrator Barbara von Johnson, who won a competition to visually depict the character.

The popularity of the little goblin led to numerous adaptations in the form of books, a television series, and movies. With his humorous adventures and his iconic red hair, Pumuckl quickly became one of the most well-known characters in the German-speaking world. For over 50 years, he has delighted both children and adults alike — whether in radio plays, books, TV series, or films.

In 2023, Pumuckl returned to the screen with "Neue Geschichten vom Pumuckl" (New Stories of Pumuckl). Filmed in the summer of 2022 in and around Munich, the series was released on RTL+ on December 11, 2023. It premiered at the Munich Film Festival in late June 2023, where it won the Audience Award for the Children's Film Festival. From October 26, 2023, the first three episodes were shown in selected cinemas.

The new series is set 30 years after the original stories. Florian Eder, the nephew of Master Eder, takes over his uncle’s workshop and encounters Pumuckl there. The goblin is voiced by Maxi Schafroth, whose voice has been altered using artificial intelligence to resemble that of the original voice actor, Hans Clarin, who passed away in 2005. This allows Pumuckl’s original voice to be synthetically reconstructed. The revival of the cult goblin impressively demonstrates his timeless popularity and continues the charming stories for a new generation.
