The Lion King franchise is based upon the classic animation film “The Lion King” of 1994. Due to the overwhelming success Disney released several direct-to-video sequels (1998: “The Lion King 2 – Simba’s Pride”, 2004: “The Lion King 3 –Hakuna Matata“), and a spin-off television series in 1995 “The Lion King’s Timon & Pumbaa“. After many years in the Disney Strong Room, the film will see its diamond release on DVD and for the first time on Blu-ray in autumn 2011. What is more, The Lion King Musical celebrates its 10th stage anniversary in Hamburg. In addition to large-scale marketing activities in 2011 new licensed products are already in development.
