For more than 100 years the German Football Association (Deutsche Fußball Bund - DFB) has been developing and coining the image and general conditions of football in Germany. With more than 6.5 million members in over 25,000 sports clubs all over the country, the DFB is one of the largest associations in Germany. In 2000 the DFB celebrated their 100th anniversary. It all began in Leipzig on January 28, 1900. Representatives of 86 clubs had gathered in the restaurant "Mariengarten" and founded the German Football Association (DFB).
